In 2015, Milwaukee released their robust smart tool management platform, ONE-KEY. The smartphone and web application allows users to not only keep data of their tools spread across different users and jobsites, but it also offers tool customization and tool tracking, for tools that are enabled with ONE-KEY. Earlier this year, the platform got a major upgrade with the release of added tool security, which allow users to hide tools, lock the trigger or footpad, or completely render the tool useless remotely if lost or stolen.
Tool and construction equipment theft is a major issue affecting many contractors throughout the country each year. Not only that, but using tools on multiple sites in the same week can make it easy to lose track of your assets. Without being able to track your tools, you have a small chance of recovery.
Milwaukee Tool has announced the release of a new solution for tool and equipment tracking, using its ONE-KEY system, called TICK. At roughly 2” in diameter, the TICK is a rugged, Bluetooth enabled device that can be used on any tool or equipment. It solves a few issues, including being able to track tools that aren’t ONE-KEY enabled, tracking non-Milwaukee tools, and tracking non-powered equipment. Just glue it, screw it, rivet it, or strap it to the object you want to track and you’re on your way. Unlike other device tracking devices, the TICK is made for the construction industry and is dust and water-tight, as well as UV rated to keep it from getting brittle. It can also withstand impacts and heavy vibrations.
Using Bluetooth, TICK can track tools that come within 100 feet of any device that has the ONE-KEY app installed. So, while it won’t be able to pinpoint the location of a stolen tool that’s miles away, another user that has the ONE-KEY app may come within 100 feet of it, which will alert you that it’s been located.
Setting up a new TICK is super easy, as well. It only takes about 30 total seconds after the app is installed:.
- Download the ONE-KEY app on Android or iOs and sign up for a free account.
- Add the item that you want to attach the TICK to
- Remove the top cover from the TICK
- Click the + sign to add item and select “Milwaukee TICK”
- Remove the TICK battery for at least 10 seconds and then re-insert
- Place the TICK near your phone until it’s found.
- Tap “Associate TICK” and choose the tool you wish to track

IN THE EVENT THAT ANY PROVISION IS DETERMINED TO BE INVALID OR OTHERWISE UNENFORCEABLE OR ILLEGAL, THESE RULES SHALL OTHERWISE REMAIN IN EFFECT AND SHALL BE CONSTRUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR TERMS AS IF THE INVALID OR ILLEGAL PROVISION WERE NOT CONTAINED HEREIN. Last summer, Hilti announced that they had developed their first exoskeleton designed for construction tradespeople in a partnership with Ottobuck, a prosthetics, orthotics, and exoskeleton provider. Earlier this month, Hilti officially released the exoskeleton, announced more details, and published its retail price on their website.
