As with most things in life, we have to keep getting better and moving forward in order to stand out from the pack, especially when it concerns your business and personal wellbeing. People notice trends and copy those that have been successful in the past. Think about your resume, it probably looks like everyone else’s: your name and address up top, your education and your work experience next, all whittled down to just less than a page. They all say the same thing, “Hey, hire me, I’m great.” It’s hard to truly set yourself apart.
Setting your company up for success on bid proposals is just as hard; every contractor explains how reliable and trustworthy they are. When all of the proposals look exactly the same, the owner has no choice but to simply use the lowest bidder on their job.
Chief Marketing Strategist of Brand Constructors, Rob Folse, explains that his company uses the “Who Give a $&!#?” test. It’s a simple test: if elements of your proposal don’t set yourself apart from the pack, discard them. If your company currently does not have something that sets itself apart, it’s time to start working on it.
