Even though we rely heavily on chalk reels to properly layout components on a job site, we often don’t consider quality when buying them. If you have frustrations with broken gears and ripped lines on your past chalk reels, then Milwaukee Tool hopes to have a solution for you.
With the introduction of their new Bold Line and Precision Line Chalk Reels, available February 2015, Milwaukee has promised the tool to deliver the “longest gear life in the industry.”
“Current chalk reels available lack the durability that’s expected on the jobsite. Throughout our research, we saw countless broken chalk reels on jobsites – namely broken gears and ripped lines. Users repeatedly buy new chalk reels, leading to an immense amount of downtime and cost.” said Bobby Shaw, Director of Product Marketing for Milwaukee Tool. “Chalk reels are so widely used on the jobsite that they shouldn’t be looked at as a disposable tool. Through a never-before-seen gear system and proprietary clutch, we’ve set out to completely change the way users can expect to use their chalk reels, giving them the long-lasting durability they need to tackle all of their projects.”
The Bold Line Chalk Reel is a 1.5mm braided line for more pronounced lines and the Precision is a thinner .9mm braided line for a more crisp line. Both versions are reinforced with a StripGuard Clutch that protects gears when the line is snagged or the user uses too much force. The braided lines of both reels also provide a lot more durability.

Construction has been designated as essential business in most areas of the country, but that doesn’t necessarily mean construction workers don’t have any risk of contracting or spreading the disease. Chances are, you’ve probably never washed your power tools before, because, well, tools are supposed to get dirty. But, in the time of an unprecedented pandemic, now might just be the time to start, as it might allow you to do your part in slowing the spread.
For years, Milwaukee has made it very clear that they will continue to keep their M18 platform as their core system. Cordless tool users spend a ton of money into batteries these days, and the company’s goal is to not force them into investing into a new cordless system. That means that Milwaukee has to come up with innovative ways to provide the tools users want while being limited to 18 volts.
In 2015, Milwaukee announced the release of their digital tool tracking platform: ONE-KEY. The company has since released dozens of ONE-KEY enabled tools to manage them using Bluetooth, an inventory management system, and tool reporting functionality. Yesterday, the company announced several enhancements to the platforms inventory and reporting interfaces.
Last week, Milwaukee Tool hosted dozens of construction media representatives at their headquarters for their yearly New Product Symposium (NPS). Over 100 new products were announced in the one day event and Construction Junkie was there to catch a glimpse of what is to come from the red brand over the next year.
Welcome to the first edition of Tool Junkie, which will be a regularly occurring feature on Construction Junkie in 2019. It’s important for everyone in the construction industry to keep up with new tool developments, from the trades to those in charge of purchasing. Our goal is to better highlight noteworthy tools throughout the year. We’ll start with a familiar brand to our readers: Milwaukee Tool.
After heavily focusing on the mechanical trades for years, Milwaukee Tool has made a concerted effort to attract carpenters and remodelers to their constantly growing M18 battery platform. The tool manufacturer has introduced cordless miter saws and nail guns in recent years. They also announced several more carpentry tools are on their way at their yearly New Product Symposium event in May, including a new D-handle jig saw, a table saw, and an updated 7-¼” circular saw.
Proper lighting is one of the most overlooked things on a construction site. Sure, most sites have some overhead lighting, but with a minimum of only 5 loot candles required by OSHA in general construction areas, there’s a lot left to be desired. Milwaukee Tool is, by far, the leader in the construction lighting category based on shear volume and quality of their lighting solutions.
Milwaukee Pipeline, the red tool brand’s virtual product release event, is officially over for 2020. Airing 4 total episodes, Pipeline highlighted many new tool offerings that the company will release over the next several months. Episode 1 saw the release several new M12 and M18 tools (like the M12 23GA pin nailer, updated oscillating multi-tools, several new impact wrenches, and vacuums) and episode 2 featured the expansion of the extremely popular modular storage solution, PACKOUT, and Milwaukee’s first cordless laser lines.
Episodes 3 and 4 focused on new lighting solutions, an expansion of their PPE offerings, and several cutting and drilling solutions and accessories. Let’s get into the highlights:
