Creating submittal logs and tracking forms can be a complete hassle, so thankfully tech companies have taken notice and have begun creating tools to alleviate the problem.  Earlier this week, Procore announced the release of their new Submittal Builder tool, which will scan your project’s spec book and create a submittal log within minutes.

83% of Procore’s users that have tried the new Submittal Builder have said that the new tool will save them 5-7 days of searching through spec books and transferring data to Excel, according to Procore. The spec uploader allows you to select 1 or more spec documents, as long as they’re in readable PDF form, nd searches the documents for key words.  Once the scan is complete, all of the submittals are organized by CSI code and spec section. Below is a nice GIF of how the tool works:

One of the coolest features, I think, is the ability to highlight a specific section of a spec and create a new submittal in seconds.  After you have all of your submittals created, you can then manually edit the details, add due dates, and assign a task to someone on the team, just like you would normally within Procore’s existing submittal area.

Everything with the new Submittal Builder is contained within the Procore application.  Links to spec sections are automatically created, so you can reference the appropriate spec section right from Procore, no need to download a .csv file.

The new feature is also included – read: “free” – to all users of Procore’s Project Management platform.  There’s no additional purchases necessary and it’s already loaded to your Procore project pages.

The new tool will certainly be a time saver for many Procore users, but it’s not the only one with a submittal log creator. Early this year, PlanGrid released their own version of an automatic submittal log creator. PlanGrid’s platform does require a separate purchase, however, as it’s not included as part of the standard package.
