If there’s one thing that I know about contractors, it’s that they love to navigate governmental regulations and fill out the required paperwork. That’s obviously sarcasm, but, in reality, payroll compliance can be extremely difficult to manage, especially when workers bounce between roles and your company’s jobsites can span across multiple cities and states.
eBacon’s goal is to keep your business in payroll compliance with regulations like the Davis-Bacon Act, the Service Contract Act, and State Prevailing Wage Laws, while also managing fringe benefits and determining possible tax savings.
The Davis-Bacon Act (DBA) is actually the inspiration for their company name. For those that may not know, the DBA is a federal law that was created in 1931 and requires contractors to pay local prevailing wages on public projects. Prevailing wage amounts vary based upon the role of a laborer and location of the job.
That variation is what makes compliance so complicated. At Groundbreak 2019, I spoke with another attendee about prevailing wages and he mentioned having an employee that sometimes works as a general laborer, but will occasionally perform concrete finishing duties on infrastructure projects. The hours he worked have to be meticulously tracked, as we will make a different hourly rate based upon which role he worked. That’s where eBacon can step in.
Users of eBacon can perform time tracking on mobile devices directly on the jobsite instead of filling out hard copies, sending them to the office, and waiting for them to be sorted through and organized. That gives managers real-time data, which reduces surprises later on. Time can be verified through GPS mapping, Geo Fencing, and Biometric time clocks, as well.
Government forms are easily created based upon the data already entered into the system. eBacon estimates that their software saves a typical client about $67,000 per year and around 35 hours per week.
Helpful integrations with popular construction software can also save time by avoiding double work. eBacon works with several other services, like Procore, Quickbooks, Sage, and TSheets, among others. These integrations can send data back and forth to keep everyone on your team up-to-date without manually entering the data in multiple systems.
