There are a ton of fantastic construction companies throughout the world right now, but all too often they don’t get the recognition they deserve. Autodesk is providing a platform for your company’s projects or individual innovators in construction to receive that recognition with their 9th annual AEC Excellence Awards competition.
Autodesk is currently accepting entries for 4 different categories specifically for the construction industry: small, medium, and large sized projects, and individual Innovator of the year. The projects will be judged based upon their use of technology. The Innovator of the Year Award “will honor a pioneering individual who is using emerging technology and processes that are new to the AEC industry for improved efficiency and productivity that results in smarter cities, and smarter, more responsive buildings and infrastructure,” according to the competition’s website.
The winners will be honored during Autodesk University 2020, which will be held digitally this year.
In last year’s competition, Mortenson|Clark took home the award for “Construction – Large Project” with the Chase Center & Warriors Mixed-Use Office and Retail Development in San Francisco, CA. The “Medium Project” was awarded to John SISK & Son from the United Kingdom for a high rise residential development in Wembley Park for their use of BIM to reduce costs and achieve time savings. The “Small Project” award was given to Windover Construction, Inc. for using modular construction on an upscale apartment community in Beverly, Massachusetts called CANVAS.
The Innovator of the Year award went to Windover’s Amr Raafat, their Director of Virtual Design & Construction for his extensive use of technology on the aforementioned modular apartment community and other projects. Amr also leveraged 3D modeling to create a virtual walkthrough of a Windover construction site for safety training.
If you or your company are interested in entering the competition, submission can be made until June 30 on the AEC Excellence Awards website. Finalists will be announced in September, winners will be announced in October, and the awards ceremony will be held at Autodesk University in November.
