Hammers are commonly described as the “hammer of the construction industry,” because of their commonality and importance on every job site. Nothing compares to the hammer, it’s timeless and it really hasn’t changed a whole lot in the roughly 2.6 MILLION years since its inception and, for good reason.
So how do you give a hammer some swag? You let your personal swag absorb into the hammer by not just placing the hammer in your tool belt, but by nonchalantly tossing it into the air and catching it with your tool belt, like Jimmy Brennan Pedro does in the video below.
We wouldn’t suggest doing this without wearing steel toes or a hard hat, around other people, or really at all for that matter.

If you’ve ever wondered what the worst way to get rid of a puddle is, you’re about to find out.
There’s no doubt that construction workers love a good prank and some of them get pretty creative. Our favorites in the past have included the seismic test prank, the fake bear on site prank, and the “staple in the finger” prank. Obviously, as far as messing around on the job site goes, the least dangerous as the prank is, the better.
I’m not afraid to admit that I once with through a short phase in my life when I was really into disco music. I was a child and those were the only dance moves I knew. You may think you hate disco music, but you have to admit, at minimum, your leg starts bouncing or your head starts bobbing when Rick James, KC & The Sunshine Band, or the Bee Gees come on the radio.
So, you can blame that period in my life for taking the time to write about a concrete mix truck that’s been dressed up as a disco ball.
Construction work is serious stuff, injuries happen all the time and safety awareness is key. That being said, an occasional prank is a fun way to bring some levity to the job site, especially when you get a great reaction from your coworker. Last year, we shared a video of a couple construction workers pranking an unsuspecting newcomer by making him swing a sledge hammer in a circle for several minutes to test a seismic reading, which you can watch here.
The video below is from carpenter Jason Wolfe, who tricks his cowoker, Tyler, into think he had shot a staple straight though his finger.
If you ever want to feel old and stupid, hand a child a smart phone and watch them navigate through it like it’s an extension of their hand. They can pick up on things incredibly quick and these kids will be our betters one day (unless we act quick…look out kiddos).
Some people just love their construction equipment so much that they have to sing about it. Either that or they get hired by a major equipment manufacturer to create a viral marketing video. No matter what the reason to sing about it, it’s still pretty entertaining.
There are many times that I wonder how certain procedures or inventions were discovered and this is certainly one of them.
We use power tools and other power equipment in the construction industry for one simple reason: they’re stronger than we’ll ever be. Some people fail to realize that and put themselves in peculiar situations and many times set themselves up for an injury.
There are many classic pranks that construction workers pull on the new guy on the site, such as being sent to find a left handed hammer or a light bulb repair kit, but this one might just be the most tiring.
